Motorola has launched a new leader. The popular RAZR is being substituted by the new KRZR, whose glossy materials look luxurious. The Motorola K1 is a rather striking blue colour and it shines and glistens. On the one hand, the Motorola KRZR K1 looks professional, but on the other, its shiny appearance makes a rather kitsch impression.
At 4.05x1.73x0.67 inches, its narrower form factor makes it much more stylish. The Motorola looks like one smooth surface. The keys are not separate from each other, but divided by rubber stripes. They feel well made. The volume and camera buttons are on the side of the phone. On the right side, there is a speech button. The Motorola KRZR K1's menu is orderly and logical. All of the functions have little icons. Several basic functions that can be used quickly with just one touch of a button can already be found on the KRZR K1's starter screen. The external display is a CSTN 256k Colour Screen (96 x 80 Pixels). The internal TFT has a resolution of 176 x 220 pixels on a surface of 30 x 38 mm and supports 256K colors. The round selection key brings you to the main menu. KRZR is a quad band technology phone which allows the user to use the phone over GSM 850, GSM 900, GSM 1800 & GSM 1900 networks.
KRZR K1 has a 1.3-megapixel camera without a flash. The camera offers four standard resolutions: 160 x 120 px, 320 x 240px, 640 x 480 px, and 1280 x 1024 px. Brightness and White Balance maybe adjusted to optimize each shot. A zoom and self-timer also add to the phone's efficiency. Photos may also be shot using the external screen for self-portraits. The KRZR's camera steps up to the plate with four shutter sounds: the practical Silent and Shutter, as well as Quack and Boing. The Color Effects, while few, hit up the standards of Antique, Black & White, and Negative. Multi shot takes five quick-fire rapid-shot photos in a row.

The K1 offers a generic Motorola music player which works fine and supports MP3, AAC, and AAC+ files. The phone's built-in Music Library sorts music by Genre, Artist, Album,Song, and Playlist, as well as offering Play All and Shuffle playback options. Music can be controlled with the flip open via the Menus or with the flip closed via the touch-sensor buttons on the front plate of the phone. The phone comes packaged with a headset adaptor so that users may connect standard headphones via the USB port.
KRZR has 20 Mbytes internal Memory plus MicroSD™ Memory Card extension support. There are different ways of connecting the Motorola KRZR K1 to a computer. You can choose a Bluetooth or USB connection. The Bluetooth connection is stable and works quickly. Other basic offerings include a vibrate mode, a voice recorder, text and multimedia messaging, an alarm clock, a calendar, and a calculator. And on the higher end, there is a speakerphone, voice dialing and commands. The Motorola Krzr K1 has a rated talk time of 5.8 hours and a rated standby time of 12.5 days.
The pity is that Motorola has only improved its aged user interface by few elements from the V3x model leaving plenty of details untouched: the built-in camera is bad, the external display is rather poor, and once again you will find two music players, none of which is really efficient. FM radio is again missing from the package. All in all KRZR lacks teeth.
